Coach Wilson has over twenty years of coaching volleyball and basketball
experience. He has lead Providence High School to 5 State Championships, 3
State Runnerup finishes, and 3 Final Four finishes in volleyball over the
last 12 years, and has been ranked as one of the 10 volleyball teams in the
city 7 times according to the San Antonio Express-News.
Coach Wilson also has coached Junior Olympic USAV volleyball. In 2001, for
the Alamo Volleyball Club, his 13 yr-old National team finished 72-4,
winning the Lone Star Qualifier, finished as the Silver Division winner in
the 14's age group at the 3rd Coast tournament, and finally finishing 3rd
overall at Junior Olympic Nationals. In 2002, his 14's were 82-9 playing
mostly 15 and 16 year olds, won Lone Star Qualifier and the Texas
Championship Series, Finalists at the Hoosier Qualifier, Finalists at 3rd
Coast (16's division), semi-finalists at Regionals (16's division), and
finished 5th overall at Nationals in the Open division. Seven of his ten
players are playing varsity in 2002 as Freshmen.
For 2003, Coach Wilson's 15 yr-old team made history by becoming the 1st
Texas team to ever win an "OPEN" title, by winning the 15 &
under Open National Championship. With a 93-6 record, they won 15, 16, 17,
and 18 yr-old tournaments. All 9 of these Freshmen age players will be
Varsity players on their respective high school teams in 2003-04.
For 2004, Coach Wilson's 16 yr-old team finished 3rd in the 16 & under
Open National Championships. He also has worked USAV High Performance camps
and studied the teachings directly from the USA Olympic Volleyball Head
Coach, Toshi Yoshida.
Coach Wilson has played on several USAV Volleyball teams, men's and coed. He
was the player/coach of the 1990 4th place team for Coed Nationals Open
Division, and Finalists for the 1992 Coed Nationals tournament, where he
made 1st Team All-American.
Coach Wilson’s program, placing emphasis on TECHNIQUE, DEFENSE, and
FAST-PACE OFFENSES, has earned respect throughout the volleyball community,
and has always faired well against the top 5A and 4A schools. Providence has
graduated academically and socially competent young ladies, and some of them
were talented enough to move on to the next level of volleyball.
