HIGH SCHOOL CLUBS and ORGANIZATIONS

National Honor Society - The Providence High School chapter of the National Honor Society is a proud organization of tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade scholars committed to service, leadership, and character. These students maintain a cumulative GPA of 90 or better for membership and consistently demonstrate all four of these qualities throughout their three years at Providence. Campus and community involvement provide opportunities for service ranging from peer tutoring and teacher assistance to volunteer experiences at local and parish organizations. Most importantly, these young women act as models for their peers of integrity and true honor in every endeavor.

The induction process begins each January when GPA’s are reviewed for eligibility, and the process continues with verification of eligible students’ service, leadership, and character qualities. A moving and meaningful Induction Ceremony takes place in April of each school year.

The students serve in various ministries such as Eucharistic Ministers, Ushers, and Lectors for school masses. The students gain information that will help them to continue to grow in their faith life and this is reached through planning and attending various retreats offered at Providence High School. One of our many retreats offered is the Providence ACTS Retreat which if open to every student in the high school and allows them to work together as a team to prepare for the ACTS Retreat that is student led. This retreat is an amazing bonding experience which invites student, teachers and people in their church community to come together and help to grow in each other’s faith. In addition to retreats the students have opportunities to serve in their communities through various service projects done around San Antonio.

Liturgical Choir - The Liturgical Choir is a musical group that contributes to the spiritual development of Providence by leading the school in prayer through song at the various liturgies of the year. In the Liturgical Choir, a student shares her musical talents, a gift generously offered to make liturgy and prayer meaningful. Students are invited to share their particular musical expertise in a variety of ways, through singing, serving as cantor, and/or playing an instrument such as guitar, piano, flute, violin, or cello. Occasionally we sing songs in different languages. The Liturgical choir is responsible for the prayerful performance of song at the liturgies celebrated at Providence. The work of the Liturgical Choir is a work of service to others, and any student enrolled at Providence is warmly welcomed to contribute to its efforts.

National Junior Honor Society - The purpose of this organization shall be to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of Providence Catholic School. Page Turners - Page Turners read and discuss books that aren’t assigned by a teacher for any class, the books you want to read. The clubs are open to all faculty, staff and students at Providence. Page Turners “meet and eat” monthly like a traditional book club, but meet all the time in an online discussion forum. Any member can post a question about the current book and must post at least once per discussion question. Literature and Technology Unite!

There are no officers. All club matters are decided by vote of members present at the monthly meetings. The clubs' fundraising efforts, which include an annual Used Book Sale, help purchase books for both groups.

Eco-Justice Club - The purpose of the Eco-Justice Club is threefold:

  • To model responsible stewardship of God’s creation by encouraging the Providence community to reduce their negative impact on the environment, and to reuse or recycle as much as possible.
  • To take part in local environmental beautification and clean-up activities, and to encourage the Providence community to do the same.
  • To educate the Providence community about local, regional, and global environmental issues through publication, presentation, and public interaction.
