Sister Marjie Filler:

Emily Flores: English
With 38 years of teaching, I am happy to be “home” again at Providence. I graduated from PHS in 1967, and after 34 years in the public school sector, I am currently in my fourth year teaching English to Provets! I am a native San Antonian, having attended St. Mary’s University and UTSA, majoring in English and Speech. Throughout my teaching career and in addition to teaching all secondary grades except grade 12, I have also had the pleasure of teaching teachers across Texas as a New Jersey Writing Project trainer and a Boerne Writing Project co-author and trainer. I try to share my joy of writing and literature with my students and am especially pleased when I can see my students grow and improve in these foundations of effective communication. Planning new and exciting teaching strategies, providing rigor and challenge for my students, and helping them to reach those heights fill my days at Providence . I am also pleased to sponsor our campus chapter of the National Honor Society.

Alicia Garcia: Principal.
Alicia Garcia was born in Slaton, Texas, a quiet rural community in the South Plains of the Panhandle. She was raised in a humble and upright family. She learned how to work hard in the cotton fields of West Texas and learned how to appreciate the value of a dollar. Education was a priority in her home. She realized early on that education was her ticket out of hard labor. In a world that values material possessions and evaluates people by their background and ethnicity, she learned from her family that without God, everything else is meaningless. God was the center of her family life. She learned to rely on a God who cared for the poorest of the poor and would always provide. She learned that Our Lady of Guadalupe would lead her to God especially in her most dire needs. <more>

My daughter, Valerie, has attended Providence since sixth grade and will graduate this school year, class of 2012. I believe that girls and boys learn math differently.
