Anne Bristol was the
first lay person to serve as Principal of Providence in
its 56 year history. She served as Principal from July
of 2000 until July 2006. During the six years that she
served as Principal, she led the school through
considerable growth and changes.
She has motivated the
enrichment of the fine arts department, the summer
school program and growth in the technology department.
She also has facilitated the creation of an internship
program, distance-learning opportunities, dual credit
classes and an increased number of AP courses. The
academic gains have resulted in a 100% graduation and
college acceptance rate and an average of 2.8 million
dollars in college scholarships earned over the past
four years. In
2005, she led the school through the planning and
creation of a middle school division. Providence
Preparatory was born with 64 students; grew to 86 in its
second year; and will top 100 students in year three.
Clearly a need for an all-girls middle school in San
Antonio was greater than even Ms. Bristol could have
predicted. Under
her leadership, the Capital Campaign – Building on
Providence, has completed Phase One with the renovation
of the former chaplain’s residence into an inspiring art
studio. She continues to work for support to complete
Phase two – the renovation of the former Drought family
home and convent to the Sisters who taught here during
the early years of the school. With the school library
moving to the second floor of the house that will free
up the existing library for additional classrooms.
In August 2006, Ms. Bristol became the first President
of Providence – the High School and the Preparatory
School. Under the President / Principal model of
governance, the Principals of the high school and the
middle school handle the day to day operations of the
two divisions while the President handles the
advancement of the institution.
Ms. Bristol holds a
Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work from Florida
State University and a Masters of Art in Education and
English from the University of Texas at Arlington. Anne
is also a graduate of Ursuline Academy, Dallas, Texas.
During her years on staff at Ursuline she was named
Teacher of the Year in 1997 and was the recipient of the
Dallas Diocese Excellence in Education Award in 1998.
Her educational career spans
three decades and includes teaching in both elementary
and middle school as well as high school and college.
Ms. Bristol spent eleven years at Ursuline Academy,
Dallas, where she taught, English, theater, speech and
yearbook journalism. While at Ursuline, she created and
was head administrator for the school's innovative and
comprehensive Summer Program. In addition, Ms. Bristol
began the Theater Division of the Performing Arts
Department there and was the driving force behind the
creation of a multi-million dollar performing arts
center. Ms. Bristol
brought to Providence her energy, impressive resume and
rich educational background in Catholic, single gender
education. Ms. Bristol has been nominated by the
Ex-Students Association of the College of Education at
UT for the Texas Excellence Award for Outstanding High
School Teachers and recently received an Educators Shape
the Future award from Texas A & M University and the
Yellow Rose of Texas, Excellence in Education Award.
Additionally, she is active
in the San Antonio Rotary Club as well as the San
Antonio Women's Chamber of Commerce and has helped
reconnect Providence to its important place in the
history and life of this city. She has three grown
children and five grandchildren of her own– all in
Dallas, and shares her husband’s two children and five
grandchildren with him. She is married to Lewis Campbell
and they enjoy traveling, sailing, and daily walks
together. |
