(December 16, 2004) – Providence Student Selected for
Prestigious High School Aerospace Scholars Program.
Dina
Robles has been selected to participate in the High School Aerospace
Scholars (HAS) program this year. HAS is an educational program designed
for students who are interested in science and engineering careers.
During the
program, students are divided into teams that work under the guidance of a
NASA mentor, a NASA co-op student, and a teacher. The program requires
students to complete 12 web-based lessons, to interact electronically with
students from across the state, and then to attend a weeklong workshop at
the Johnson Space Center.
In
addition to the application, participants must provide recommendations
from their English and math teachers, as well as the Texas State Senator
from their district.
(November 18, 2004) – Providence Senior to Explore U.S.
National Security
Having
demonstrated academic achievement and an interest in a career related to
national security, Regina Cervantes, senior at Providence High School, was
selected to participate in the National Youth Leadership Forum on Defense,
Intelligence and Diplomacy (NYLF/DID) in Washington D.C.
(October 25, 2004) – Providence Senior Selected for Express-News Teen Team
Providence
Senior, Priscilla Hernandez, now has two newspaper “jobs.” She is
Editor of the Providence High School newspaper, The ProVue and a
member of the San Antonio Express-News Teen Team (formerly known as the
Teen Advisory Board). According the Express-News, nearly 200 students
applied for a position on the 42-member Teen Team.
This group
of students will meet with writers, editors, photographers and layout
artists once a month as they produce articles of interest to teens.

(October 14, 2004) – The Central Catholic/Providence High School Button Band
received Best Drum Major, Best Color Guard and Best Drum Line caption
awards in its second marching contest of the season on Saturday, October
9th.
Taking
3rd place overall, the Button Band was the only private school
band to perform in the 3A competition.
The
band's next and last competition this season will be the TPSMEA State
Marching Contest to be held 6:00 p.m., Saturday, October 30th in the
Button Stadium at Central Catholic High School. Admission is free and open
to the public.
(January 12th, 2004) – Providence Principal, Anne Bristol,
Receives Yellow Rose of Education Award
Providence
Principal, Anne Bristol, was awarded the Yellow Rose of Education Award at
the “Salute to Quality in Education” luncheon held late November. This
honor is bestowed by the Constance B. Allen Heritage Guild for Lifetime
Learning who selects outstanding educators city-wide each year. Ms.
Bristol joins eleven other PHS teachers and CDP’s who have been chosen
for their contributions to education. |
