High School Social Studies: The
Social Studies curriculum is designed to allow the student to obtain a
solid background in Geography, World History, U.S. History and Government.
The chief objective of the curriculum is to put the student in touch with
the realities of the world in which she lives, acquiring facts and
concepts and challenging her to analyze and respond creatively to this
world in a concerned way.
Preparatory Social Studies: Social Studies courses are not only
focused on specific geographies or time periods, but on acquiring
the skills necessary to continue in studying history and geography.
Sixth graders study world geography and world cultures. In seventh
grade the focus is on Texas history and southwestern America. The
eighth graders concentrate on American history from its beginnings
to the post-Civil War reconstruction era. The course looks at the
issues of the past and the present in light of the Church’s social
teachings and strives to make students aware of the dignity of each
human being and the effect decisions have on the environment, social
institutions, governments, and on the future of the world.
